In celebration of Veganuary, we've curated a selection of London's most mouthwatering vegan restaurants from high end to casual. For those new to the concept, Veganuary is an annual initiative led by a UK nonprofit organisation, which actively advocates for and educates about veganism. It encourages individuals to embrace a plant-based lifestyle for the entire month of January. Since its inception ten years ago, participation in this inspiring event has consistently soared year after year. Hopefully this list makes it easy for you to join in Veganuary 2025.
Gauthier Soho (Plant based)
#FLODown: Founded by Michelin-starred chef Alexis Gauthier, Gauthier offers vegan fine diningin Soho. The menu is a seasonal five or eight-course set menu featuring modern French cuisine. Beyond their Soho location, they have expanded with spin-offs like 123V in Fitzrovia and at Browns, offering vegan sushi and burgers, and Studio Gauthier, is perhaps a little less refined than at Brown but it is open plan and buzzy providing lunchtime options located at the BFI Building.

Anglo Thai (Vegan Friendly)
#FLODown: A sensational new opening already earning rave reviews and is definitely one for the foodies. Blending beautiful British ingredients into creative Thai dishes packed with flavour you will find plenty to wow the palette. Diners can choose from the Chef’s Selection menus—including vegetarian and vegan options—or order à la carte. If you are feeling extra virtuous during Veganuary there is a good selection of non-alcoholic drinks. While the high-quality produce makes it a bit pricey, it’s well worth saving up for.

Plates (Plant based)
#FLODown: Newly opened this year. An upmarket but cosy affair offers a 7-course Tasting Menu with the option to add a wine pairing or a non-alcohol pairing. You will experience a new spectrum of flavours here from the menu by highly inventive Chef Kirk Haworth. His plant-based ethos began when he was diagnosed with Lyme disease in 2016. He discovered a diet without meat, gluten, refined sugar or dairy and reduced the intensity of his symptom. Plates is in very high demand. Advanced planning is recommended.

#FLODown: This sleek modern British restaurant in Hackney champions local, sustainable plant-based produce, aiming to challenge industry norms. A hyper seasonal, low impact restaurant sourcing from small-scale farms, foragers and independent producers who use regenerative and minimal intervention methods. The tasting menus change weekly and the drinks list serves low intervention + local wines as well as alcoholic & non-alcoholic cocktails.The restaurant's interiors showcase a sustainable ethos with recycled and salvaged materials.

Tendril (Vegetarian & mostly Vegan)
#FLODown: Located in Soho, this chic plant-first restaurant by Chef Rishim Sachdeva emphasises "root-to-shoot" dining and minimises waste. Since opening a permanent space in July 2023, it has made quite the splash with its (mostly) vegan comfort food. No fake meat or heavily processed ‘plant based’ ingredients in sight. Dishes are beautifully plated for those who delight in eating with their eyes first. À la Carte & set menus are available.

Kapara, Soho (Vegetarian and Vegan Friendly)
#FLODown: At Kapara, vegetables are designed to sing. Its bold and creative vegan sharing menu, priced at £64 per person, features vibrant Eastern Mediterranean dishes including fluffy pita with a spiced tomato dip; creamy hummus with aubergine relish; and smoky blackened aubergine with tahini and pomegranate molasses. Perfect for sharing, other highlights include chickpea panisse with green harissa, wood-fired leeks with sweet potato dumplings, and tender stem broccoli dressed in miso and sesame.

Holy Carrot (Plant based)
#FLODown: A stylish, forward thinking, and sustainable plant-based restaurant located in the heart of Notting. Daniel Watkins is the creative brains behind the Holy Carrot menu. His approach to cooking demonstrates the power of plants - through fermenting, open-fire cooking, and a dedication to low waste and sustainability. KIN London (Plant based)
#FLODown: Bringing plant-based paradise to Fitzrovia, the team behind KIN Café has opened KIN Restaurant right next door on Foley Street. KIN Restaurant is much more than plant-based; it’s food for everyone, thoughtfully prepared to be as inclusive as it is delicious. No faux meats in sight! The small plates were a symphony of delicious dishs that all complemented each other beautifully. Gold (Vegan friendly)
#FLODown: This informal yet oh so cosy neighbourhood restaurant at the top end of Portobello is a well establish fixture in Notting Hill. The menu focuses on seasonal plates cooked in wood ovens and served to share. Cooking over fire, charring and slow cooking means their menu is full of delicious dishes packed full of flavour. For vegans there are 4 wonderful combinations in the salad section and about 6 vegetable dishes and more if you ask to omit the dairy element - usually yoghurt.
All this is to be enjoyed in the most convivial setting which stretches over four floors with plenty of space to accommodate private parties. The plant-filled garden room on the ground floor is our favourite location to dine in. When the weather permits there is some outdoor seating to watch the comings and goings of the well-heeled residents of Notting Hill as they stroll Portobello Road.
The wine list is contemporary and substantial consisting of low intervention, organic, biodynamic and natural wines, many from recognisable appellations.

Third Culture Deli (Vegan)
#FLODown: Third Culture Deli, situated along Broadway Market, merges a deli, cafe, and cocktail bar, spotlighting plant-based and gluten-free options with an Italian American twist. Founded by I Am Nut OK creators, it serves vegan coffee, sandwiches, salads, pastries, and delightful homemade desserts like the renowned pandan matcha tiramisu.

Itadakizen (Japanese Vegan)
#FLODown: Europe’s first organic and vegan Japanese restaurant. The name translates to “taking the food of life” aiming to serve sides designed both for nourishment and healing. The atmosphere is casual and homely with a menu including creative interpretations of traditional Japanese cuisine such as bento boxes, ramen and tofu steak as well as unique tempura dishes like Isobeage (fried chestnut mushroom and cauliflower coated with nori seaweed tempura batter) perfect with a glass of beer.
A lunch set meal is available of a main and a side for £15 as well as take away lunch Bento boxes. Dinner is a “tapas” menu of sorts for which you can order between 5 to 7 dishes for two people.

Club Mexican (Vegan)
#FLODown: Enjoy excellent casual dining with delicious nachos, empanadas, tacos, burritos, and everyone’s favourite churros for dessert. Every Tuesday night in Shoreditch, you can enjoy all-you-can-eat tacos for just £20 per person – be sure to book as it gets busy! The Soho location is in Kingly Court, just off Carnaby Street, and operates on a walk-in basis. Meanwhile, the Mayfair location, housed in a stunning church conversion within Mercato Mayfair, offers a great spot to enjoy Mexican beer and cocktails with friends.

#FLODown: Parle Pantry is a small independent coffee shop located in Chiswick, London, run by two sisters, Ruken and Dee. It is the place to come for a vegan breakfast or a casual lunch in Chiswick.

#FLODown: Pronounced “ee-ma”, serving inventive and flavoursome plant-based and vegetarian Japanese food. The plating on long wooden boards is picture perfect and pleasing to the eye and tastes as good as it looks. The vegan Salmon was honourably mentioned in the Netflix documentary “Seaspiracy”. Andu Cafe (Ethiopian Vegan)
#FLODown: If you haven’t tried Ethiopian food, now is your chance at London's first vegan Ethiopian restaurant. Known for its laid-back homely atmosphere and incredible value, this charming restaurant in Dalston serves a simple menu offering a spread of stews and curries served with rice or injera. And if you haven’t had injera (a sour fermented pancake-like flatbread) before, we can't recommend it enough; it is delightful!

#FLODown: Specialises in vegan Thai cuisine, offering a dedicated menu with recipes passed down through generations. A small family run spot serving the best of Vegan Thai food: Fried Dumplings, Green Papaya Salad, Chickpea Massaman Curry, Spicy Steamed Aubergine just to name a few. #FLODown: Cosy neighbourhood spot by LA chef Julian Denis, quietly tucked away around Mare Street's corner.
