St. Pancras International's 2023 Christmas Tree: a giant literary wonderland
St. Pancras International and Hatchards partner for a 12 metre christmas tree display celebrating literature and the joy of reading.
St Pancras International has unveiled their 2023 Christmas Tree, created in collaboration with Hatchards, the renowned bookshop. The towering 12-metre Christmas tree is more than just a holiday centrepiece; it's a literary wonderland inspired by the enchanting realms created by famous authors. Featuring a winding staircase and 270 shelves adorned with over 3,800 hand-painted books, including classics like Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol and C.S. Lewis' The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe, this tree promises to transport you to the magical world of literature.
Within the majestic tree, you'll discover eight cosy nooks where visitors, young and old, can immerse themselves in the magic of Christmas and literature. Each nook is equipped with speakers that allow you to select a five-minute audiobook excerpt, exclusively provided by Penguin Books, featuring works from authors like Charles Dickens, Beatrix Potter, Zadie Smith, and more!
In a world where digital trends have sparked a 25% increase in young people's reading habits, the collaboration between St. Pancras and Hatchards aims to inspire a return to the transformative power of books. St. Pancras International, home to Hatchards, has a longstanding association with literature, from patronage by Sir John Betjeman, who saved the station from demolition in the 1960s, to its proximity to The British Library, which houses treasured manuscripts from around the world. Visit the Christmas Tree to experience the magic of literature and the spirit of the season in an immersive and captivating way.
