New art fair celebrates women in art at Mall Galleries
Inaugural Women in Art Fair celebrates women artists' contributions at Mall Galleries in October.
A groundbreaking art fair, Women in Art Fair, is set to debut at Mall Galleries spotlighting the remarkable contributions of women artists. Set to take place in the same week as Frieze London, with a dedication to addressing gender disparities in the art industry, the fair aims to provide a prominent platform for both established and emerging women artists, curators, and gallerists. Under the mission of fostering a positive global platform, Women in Art Fair (WIAF) seeks to empower female creators to showcase their work and contribute to the ongoing discourse surrounding gender, sexuality, and culture.
The event will unfold across all three spaces at Mall Galleries. The West Gallery will house a vibrant 21-booth art fair, while the East Gallery will host a thoughtfully curated exhibition titled "Unnatural Women." Additionally, the North Gallery will feature an exhibition showcasing the works of artists selected through an Open Call.
At the heart of the Women in Art Fair, the East Gallery's "Unnatural Women" exhibition promises to intrigue audiences with its exploration of the intricate relationship between humans and the natural world. This showcase will present a blend of figurative and semi-abstract pieces, spanning various mediums such as painting, sculpture, 3D art, and print. By combining traditional crafts attributed to both genders, including textiles and technological work, the exhibition aims to challenge visitors' perceptions of wilderness and landscape. Curated by artist and editor Rowena Easton, the exhibition boasts a lineup of celebrated figures like Paula Rego and Marcelle Hanselaar, as well as established and mid-career talents including Abigail Norris, Olivia Bullock, and Geraldine Swayne.
The Women in Art Fair stands as a significant milestone in acknowledging and celebrating the vital contributions of women artists, making a powerful statement in the art world's ongoing pursuit of gender equality.
