Andy Warhol exhibition coming to Ad Lib Gallery this May
Ad Lib Gallery's The Lost Warhols exhibition opens in May 2023, showcasing new interpretations of Andy Warhol's iconic works by contemporary artists.
Ad Lib Gallery presents The Lost Warhols, an exclusive exhibition showcasing works that depict the iconic artist Andy Warhol. Curated by Karen Bystedt, an American photographer and street artist, the exhibition features new interpretations of her archival photographs of Warhol by a selection of international contemporary artists including MAXIM, James Mylne, Peter Tunney, and Miguel Paredes.
In 1983, Bystedt, then a determined film student at NYU, took the original photographs after cold-calling Warhol and inviting him to pose for her book project. The book aimed to feature the era's top male models, and Warhol agreed to be part of it upon learning who else would be included. Bystedt's images capture a softer and more vulnerable side of Warhol, a man known for making others his models but now becoming a model himself.
As one of the first female street artists to establish a presence in a male-dominated space, Karen Bystedt's works have garnered international recognition and have been collected by esteemed private and public collectors. Her photographs of Andy Warhol have been featured in Blake Gopnik's definitive biopic, Warhol, and her contributions to the street art world have sparked conversations about women breaking barriers in art, hip hop, pop art characteristics and pop culture.
Date: 18 May – 18 June 2023. Location: 10 Church Road, Wimbledon Village, London, SW19 5DL. Price: Free. Website: adlib.online
