Collect Art Fair returns in celebration of two decades of contemporary craft and design excellence. Presented by the UK’s Crafts Council, this landmark edition at Somerset House unveils the latest in global contemporary craft. Beyond attracting seasoned collectors, Collect serves as an accessible entry point for newcomers to the world of collecting. With works ranging from £500 to £50,000+, there's something for every budget.
Collect Open introduces 14 innovative projects challenging material, social, political, or personal boundaries. Moreover, the talks programme delves into craft, contemporary issues, and inspiration, providing visitors with an understanding of the contemporary craft world. In the lead-up to the fair, we had the privilege of visiting three remarkable artists at their studios, gaining insight into their creative processes and the works they will showcase at Collect 2024.

Sara Dodd on show at Collect 2024 with Cube Gallery.
During our visit to see artist Sara Dodd, we discovered her unique process of crafting delicate compositions from porcelain clay, drawing inspiration from colour gradients and kiln firing dynamics. Sara described how she immerses herself in the creative process, allowing her hands to guide her without overthinking. She demonstrated her method of rolling out clay, slicing it into ribbons, and shaping them into intricate forms, which dry almost immediately. Our conversation touched on Sara's artistic evolution and the growth of her artistry; it provided an insightful glimpse into Sara's creative world. Sara’s works will be showcased with Cube Gallery at this year's Collect.

Valerie Bernadini on show at Collect 2024 with Cynthia Corbett Gallery.
Valerie Bernadini graciously welcomed us into her home studio, where she shared her fascinating journey from photography to ceramics. Central to her practice is the manipulation of light and materials to fashion unique pieces. Valerie's experimentation with light during her photography days inspired her to seamlessly incorporate neon light into her ceramic creations. Emphasising the importance of viewer interpretation, she draws inspiration from her coastal upbringing, infusing her work with a sense of personal connection. Valerie’s work will be on show with Cynthia Corbett Gallery at this year’s Collect.

Bisila Noha on show at Collect 2024 with Thrown Contemporary.
Our last visit took us to Bisila Noha's charming studio in Dalston. Sitting down with her in the early morning, we were fortunate to have her first meeting of the day. She shared her journey as a ceramic artist, emphasising how following her passion for crafting brought her fulfillment and purpose, leading her to pursue it wholeheartedly. Bisila discussed the evolution of her craft, focusing on creating pieces that resonate with her and her audience. She also reflected on her experiences at the Body Vessel Clay: Black Women, Ceramics & Contemporary Art exhibition at Two Temple Place, which was transformative and influenced her perspective on her work and her role within the craft community. Bisila's work will be on show with Thrown Contemporary
As Collect 2024 prepares to open its doors to the world, the anticipation for the diverse array of contemporary craft and design on display is palpable. From Sara Dodd's delicate porcelain compositions to Valerie Bernadini's luminescent ceramic sculptures, and Bisila Noha's soul-stirring explorations of identity and culture, these artists exemplify the spirit of innovation and excellence that define Collect as the premier destination for collectors and enthusiasts of contemporary craft and design. With each brushstroke and every sculpted form, they remind us of the boundless possibilities of artistic expression and the enduring power of creativity to inspire, uplift, and transform.
