London Christmas lights to see in 2022

The festive season is around the corner and London is about to get lit! From seasonal streetlights to gigantic Christmas trees, here is our guide to 2022 festive displays in some of London's most iconic locations including Oxford Street, Regent Street, Covent Garden and Trafalgar Square.

 

Oxford Street Christmas lights 2022

When: from Wednesday 2 November 2022

 Where: Oxford Street, London, W1D 1BS

 #FLOLondon: Oxford Street’s Christmas lights are back this year and will feature a dangling star display. They have announced all 5,000 of them will be switched on from Wednesday 2 November 2022. In an effort to be more sustainable and to cut energy consumption (cost of living crisis!), the stars are comprised of LED lightbulbs that are much more efficient than standard lightbulbs.

 

Carnaby Christmas lights 2022

When: from Tuesday 8 November 2022

Where: Carnaby St, W1F 9PS

#FLOLondon: Carnaby's Christmas display this year will be a tribute to their iconic displays from the past 25 years. Featuring elements of 14 of their best themes over the years, from Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody lyrics to an aquatic display made from recycled materials, it is set to be their best Christmas display yet! Carnaby will be switching their lights on from Tuesday 8 November 2022, join them for a festive celebration and find your favourite display from the past 25 years! 

 

Covent Garden Christmas lights 2022

When: from Tuesday 8 November 2022

Where: Covent Garden Piazza, London, WC2H 7AR

#FLODown: Covent Garden’s famous 60ft-tall Christmas tree will be back alongside 115,000 bright lights and those Instagram famous giant baubles and mistletoe inside the Apple Market. A hallmark of a London Christmas, Covent Garden will light up from 8 November 2022!

 

Regent Street and St James's Christmas lights 2022

When: from Wednesday 9 November 2022

 Where: Regent Street, London, W1B 4EA

#FLOLondon: The famous 'Spirit of Christmas' angels will once again glisten over Regent Street and St James this Christmas. Keeping things eco-friendly this year Regent Street have announced that the lights will be switched on for reduced hours this year (2 pm-midnight). ‘The Spirit of Christmas’ will be coming to Regent Street and St James from 9 November 2022 when the lights will be switched on!

Marylebone Village Christmas lights 2022

When: from Thursday 10 November 2022

Where: Marylebone High Street, London, W1U

#FLOLondon: Merry Marylebone — the annual festive light switch-on in Marylebone Village will take place on 10 November 2022. There'll be a host of fun activities surrounding the event including a charity tombola, food, gift stalls, live music, Santa’s grotto, fairground rides and lots of discounts and special offers in the local shops, restaurants and bars.

The evening will be in support of mental health charity partner Mind in Brent Wandsworth and Westminster


Belgravia Christmas lights 2022

When: from Wednesday 9 November 2022

Where: Motcomb Street, SW1X 8LA

#FLOLondon: The magical Christmas lights in Belgravia will switch on in the charming streets of Elizabeth Street and Motcomb Street on the evening of 9 November. There will be an opportunity to get into the festive spirit with mince pies and mulled wine, chorals by the London Gay Men’s Chorus, as well as lots of late-night shopping.

Don’t forget to check out all the wonderful festive shop displays in the area. They never disappoint!

Bond Street Christmas lights 2022

When: from Thursday 17 November 2022

 Where: Bond Street, London, W1S 1SP

#FLOLondon: This year Bond Street will have a new display inspired by the Crown Jewels and the many high-end jewellery stores that have made the street their home over the years. Featuring over 90,000 LED lights, expect to see a tiara-like gateway at each end of Bond Street that will welcome shoppers to the area, with 'necklaces' strung across Old and New Bond Street at regular intervals. The lights will go on from 17 November.

Don’t miss out on the incredible Christmas displays from shops in the area. From Cartier to Tiffany and Chanel, they are often some of the best displays in the city!

 

Chelsea Christmas lights 2022

When: from Friday 18 November 2022

 Where: Carnaby Street, London, W1F 9PS

#FLOLondon: The Chelsea neighbourhood is going to be utterly and undeniably aglow this Christmas. From 18 November, an area that encompasses Sloane Street, Duke of York Square, and Sloane Square will be alight with clusters of starlights and twinkling trees. There will be lots of entertainment, a festive food market and mulled wine available to mark the occasion.


Trafalgar Square

When: 1 December 2022

Where: Trafalgar Square, London, WC2N 5DN

#FLODown: The Trafalgar lighting ceremony is the hallmark of London’s festive season and a tradition that dates back to 1947. The 80-foot-high Norwegian tree was a gift to London from Norway, as thanks following World War II. The tree is decorated with energy-efficient light bulbs and in a traditional Norwegian style. The date and festive events surrounding the big switch on are yet to be confirmed.
