Friends of Ours: the ultimate neighbourhood brunch hotspot
Discover east London café, Friends of Ours – a fusion of good food and good vibes.
Friends of Ours, located in the heart of Hoxton, is a popular spot for brunch lovers and food enthusiasts. The café has a warm and inviting feel and is known for its delicious food. This trendy yet unpretentious eatery has carved a special place in East London's culinary scene.
We took a trip to this East London hotspot to indulge in their tasty offerings. As we stepped inside Friends of Ours, we immediately felt comfortable. The café has a charming atmosphere with its hanging foliage, stylish lighting, and a collection of art pieces that stem from collaborations with local artists, currently featuring artist Alana McDowell.
We went there on a sunny day, and the outdoor terrace proved to be the perfect spot to enjoy the epitome of a London summer. Embracing the local spirit, we began our meal with iced lattes made from the café's own Brazilian and Nicaraguan coffee beans, which are outstanding and only add fuel to the argument that you can find the best coffees in East London. And if you love it that much, their Brazilian and Nicaraguan coffee will soon be available for purchase onsite and online.
The menu, inspired by global flavours and fresh ingredients, presented a diverse array of all-day brunch options. We tried the baked brioche French toast with lemon curd, meringue, and strawberries – it was a delicious mix of flavours and textures. The smashed pea and beetroot toast, complete with a poached egg and catering to vegan and gluten-free preferences, was equally impressive.
Not to be missed was the Bombay lamb benedict, featuring slow-braised lamb shoulder, poached eggs, hollandaise, lime pickles, and mint. This was all topped off with a serving of their hash brown, topped with fermented chili and generously blanketed in manchego cheese. This unique twist on a beloved comfort side was delicious! The menu also offers a range of brunch favourites, including Bacon Focaccia and poached and scrambled eggs on Dusty Knuckle sourdough.
The café takes its beverages seriously as well. The range of options extends to chai lattes, fresh juices, and matcha. Apart from coffee, the menu includes Natural Wines, Craft Beers, and cocktails. We tried their refreshing Passion Fruit Spritz and punchy Paloma cocktail, which were a perfect way to wrap up our meal and savour the return of the London sunshine on the outdoor terrace.
