Benugo partners with Kids in Museums to launch new café accreditation scheme

Benugo and Kids in Museums collaborate to set industry benchmark for inclusive and accessible museum cafés in the UK.

Benugo, in partnership with Kids in Museums, has launched the Family Café Standard, an accreditation scheme aimed at making museum cafés in the UK more family-friendly and inclusive. This benchmark sets criteria for cultural institutions, emphasising affordability, healthy food options, and overall visitor experience. The initiative seeks to address barriers faced by families, ensuring that museum cafés become welcoming spaces for all visitors.

Sophie McCready, Director of Partnerships & Marketing at Benugo, expressed pride in the partnership with Kids in Museums and their commitment to inclusivity. The Family Café Standard will be implemented exclusively at over 20 Benugo sites during the summer holidays and autumn of 2023. Accredited venues, including the British Museum, London Transport Museum, and the Young V&A, have already made positive changes to enhance the experience for families.

The scheme, developed with input from families and experts, aims to become a recognised benchmark throughout the UK. It will be extended to independent museum cafés and café chains from November 2023, with Benugo remaining the sole accredited catering company until February 2024. By prioritising the quality and accessibility of museum cafés, the Family Café Standard takes a significant step towards ensuring that families and children have enjoyable and inclusive experiences when visiting cultural institutions.
